irving penn passed away yesterday. i was a big fan of his.
he created many beautiful pictures.
my favourite still life is ‘theatre accident’, taken in new york in 1947. a woman is standing next to a golden bag which has been upended. spilling out from the bag are spectacles, a pair of binoculars, a bobby pin, coloured pills, one pearl earring, a broken cigarette…
the composition and the colours are just so pleasing. i could look at it all day long.
